Oh, The Places I’ve Gone
Here’s a good way to waste a few minutes at work, a map of all the states Ive visited in my lifetime. There’s a link at the bottom so you can make your own map (Thanks to phil at Racing in the Street for this one!).

Notice poor little Rhode Island!

Just a few days ago I read a story here about Harriet, the world’s oldest giant Galapagos Land tortoises, and one of only around a dozen left of her species. The story was about her 175th birthday celebration held on November 15th of last year. Harriet hatched about 1830, and was brought to England on the HMS Beagle by Sir Charles Darwin. The 300lb+ tortoise eventually found her way to Steve Irwin’s Australia Zoo in 1988 and was expected to live at least another 20 years.
I kinda thought it would be cool to see her someday, this tortoise who was a pet of Charles Darwin.
But today I read this story, announcing the death of Harriet today. It must have been quite the unexpected surprise for her keepers. 175 years isn’t too bad though.

Wedding Day
I was putting the E-man to sleep in the rocking chair the other night, and when I got up to put him in the crib, I stepped on one of his toys. Rather than something I could have hurt myself on, it was of course one of his noisiest toys. Music filled the room and the E-man sat straight up in my arms! We waited it out, then went back to the rocking chair. Ever since I’ve made sure that all the noise-makers, of which everyone seems to buy for him, are out of the path.
Here are some pictures from a wedding we went to recently. My cousin got married, and it was a great opportunity for all of the family to get together. We stayed at a nice little motel where we’ve stayed a couple times before. The prices are cheap, the place is clean, and they’re really friendly.
It was a beautiful wedding, and they seem so happy. It was great to see all my relatives, including some that I hadn’t seen in almost 10 years!

A Spring Day
These pictures are from a beautiful spring day in May. It was the day after his first birthday party, and we picked up a picnic lunch at Wegmans (the best grocery store in the world). We had a great time.

A fever and a nap
The E-man was sick with a virus this week, poor little guy. Grandma came down to cover us on Tuesday morning since neither of us could stay home from work. My wife is finishing up her school year and has lots of state-mandated tasks to finish before her students take the regents. And I had a meeting with my advisory committee, who gave me permission to start my thesis and defend on August 3rd!!
I stayed home with him on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday while he recuperated. He was pretty miserable because of the fever and then because of the diaper rash that developed. He wanted to play and explore, but was just too tired. And then on Friday his bottom was so sore that he didn’t even want to sit down!
Today we decided to stay at home and lock ourselves in. We shut off the cellphones and turned off the TV. The E-man was feeling a lot better, so he was able to enjoy the day too. This afternoon all four of us (the three of us and the cat) took a two-hour nap on the bed. Nothing better than a long Family Nap!
